Government Departments: Ethics
The question
To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the report entitled Strengthening Ethics and Integrity in Central Government, published in July 2023, CP 900, who is responsible for upholding ethics and integrity in each Department.
Answered by Georgia Gould
The permanent secretary is responsible for the day-to-day management of their department and is accountable to Parliament for their department's actions. Every Minister, Special Adviser and Civil Servant is responsible for upholding ethics and integrity via their own code of conduct.
