Flats: Fire Prevention
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether her Department plans to commission an independent audit for buildings under 11 metres where the Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls recommends remediation work.
Answered by Alex Norris
The department reviews on a case-by-case basis where buildings under 11 metres are facing remediation costs. The review includes an independent audit of the Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEWs) where remediation work is recommended, conducted by an assessor contracted directly by the department. The audit examines if the FRAEW was conducted in line with the recommended PAS9980 standards, assessing whether any recommended work is necessary and proportionate.
