Electric Bicycles and Electric Scooters: Pilot Schemes
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment her Department has made of the potential implications for her policies of recent (a) e-bike, (b) e-scooter and (c) other micro-mobility vehicle trials in England.
Answered by Simon Lightwood
My department is running trials of rental e-scooters to better understand the benefits of e-scooters and their wider impact on public space, to inform options for future regulations.
In December 2022 we published a national evaluation of the e-scooter trials. This project represents one of the largest evaluations of e-scooters internationally in terms of the breadth of evidence collected, which includes data on 14.5 million rental e-scooter trips and 1.8 million responses from users on mode shift, journey purpose, and feelings of safety.
My department is not currently running e-bike or other micromobility vehicle trials.
