Refugees

Asked by Rupert LoweRestore BritainHome OfficeTabled Answered 12 December 2024UIN 17979

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what information her Department holds on refugees visiting their country of origin whilst still resident in the UK.

Answered by Dame Angela Eagle

Where an individual has been granted refugee status in the UK, they are not expected to leave the UK to visit their country of origin. Where an individual returns to their country of origin, this will usually indicate voluntary re-availment (of the protection of that country) and may lead to revocation of protection status under the Immigration Rules.
