Bipolar Disorder: Young People
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will take steps to ensure adequate support in schools for young people with bipolar disorder.
Answered by Stephen Kinnock
There are nearly 500 mental health support teams operational in schools and colleges across England that are able to provide early support for children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties, including where the young person may be exhibiting the early signs of bipolar disorder, by referring them to specialist children and young people’s mental health services as appropriate.
We will build on this by providing access to specialist mental health support to every school in England and setting up open access Youth Futures hubs in every community.
