HM Prison Service: Recruitment

Asked by Nick TimothyConservativeMinistry of JusticeTabled Answered 30 January 2025UIN 25762

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how are jobs in the prison service advertised (a) domestically, and (b) overseas.

Answered by Sir Nicholas Dakin

His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service publishes vacancies across formal UK advertising boards, including Civil Service Jobs. Selection for appointment to the prison service must be on merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as per the legal requirement set out in the Civil Service Recruitment Principles.

The Department does not advertise job roles overseas.
