Public Transport: Crimes of Violence
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many assaults on transport staff there have been in the last 12 months.
Answered by Dame Diana Johnson
The Home Office collects and publishes information on the number of offences and their investigative outcomes recorded by the police in England and Wales on a quarterly basis, which can be accessed here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-recorded-crime-open-data-tables
This includes assault offences recorded by British Transport Police. However, it is not currently possible to separately identify assaults against staff from those against passengers in data held centrally.
