The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment he has made of the potential role of UK's coal resources in his future energy policy.

Answered by Michael Shanks

The last coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, closed on 30 September 2024. The Government has also announced it will introduce new legislation as soon as possible to restrict the future licensing of new coal mines.
