Level Crossings: Safety

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 27 November 2025UIN 92945

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of community safety events at level crossings in reducing incidents of misuse a) in East Tilbury and b) nationally.

Answered by Keir Mather

Network Rail are responsible for determining the measures required at level crossings to create a safe environment. They regularly engage with local communities to provide information and briefing on the safety risks associated with misuse and undertake research to understand public and passenger safety attitudes and behaviour towards the railway, which helps to refine their messaging. Network Rail will continue to engage with the community in East Tilbury to ensure safety levels at the crossing are maintained.
