Leasehold: Surrey Heath

Asked by Dr Al PinkertonLiberal DemocratMinistry of Housing, Communities and Local GovernmentTabled Answered 5 January 2026UIN 99545

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what discussions his Department has had with local authorities on issues affecting leaseholders in Surrey Heath constituency.

Answered by Matthew Pennycook

My Department has had no discussions with local authorities regarding specific issues affecting leaseholders in the Surrey Heath constituency.

On 4 July, the government published a consultation on strengthening leaseholder protections over charges and services. The consultation included proposals to reform the section 20 ‘major works’ procedure, increase transparency over service charges and enhance access to redress through the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024. It can be found on gov.uk here. The consultation closed on 26 September and we are analysing responses.
