To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, if he will hold discussions with Cabinet colleagues on preparations for potential fuel rationing, in the context of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK has a strong and diverse security of energy supplies. Petrol stations in the UK are well-stocked.
Both the AA and Fuels Industry UK have been clear drivers should fill up as normal, with fuel production and imports continuing across the UK as usual.
In 2025, around 90% of the crude oil refined in the UK was imported, and only around 1% of that came from the Middle East. UK refinery production of petrol, from crude oil, in 2025 exceeded demand. We had surplus to export.
As a responsible government, we continue to plan for all eventualities and are monitoring the situation closely.
