Midwives and Nurses: Recruitment
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department is taking to implement the Graduate Guarantee for newly qualified nurses and midwives; and what metrics will be used to measure its impact.
Answered by Karin Smyth
NHS England is actively monitoring future nursing and midwifery student numbers and will continue to assess the efficacy of the 2025/26 Graduate Guarantee as a mechanism. There are a range of measures to support students, universities, and clinical educators across England with the transition into employment, including a Student Hub offering guidance, and resources for students and newly qualified practitioners.
Additionally, NHS England has developed a student movement dashboard enabling regional teams, universities, and employers to understand graduate numbers, historic staff turnover rates, and vacancies, in order to signpost newly graduated students towards available roles.
