Childbirth: Databases
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with reference to the answer of 24 April 2026 to Question 107772 on Childbirth: Medical Records, which NHS trusts have recorded SNOMED CT codes (a) 125678001, (b) 699110007, (c) 1269487002, (d) 1269486006 and (e) 842009 within the Maternity Services Dataset since the introduction of guidance on consanguinity recording in September 2024.

Consanguinity can currently be recorded in the Maternity Services Data Set by maternity services providers at any point in the maternity care pathway. There are no current plans to make this recording mandatory.
The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust have recorded births using the SNOMED codes 125678001, 699110007, 1269487002, 1269486006, or 842009 in the Maternity Services Dataset, up to February 2026, although this is provisional data.
The East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust has submitted 125678001 and 699110007. These have been confirmed to be data submission errors and should not be interpreted as births with those relationships.
The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust have submitted 1269487002, 1269486006, and 842009.
