Buses: Parking

Asked by Greg SmithConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 22 May 2026UIN 1263

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what enforcement powers are available to her Department where a local transport authority fails to make adequate provision for coach parking, pick-up and drop-off facilities in its local transport plan.

Answered by Simon Lightwood

The Local Transport Plan guidance and “Better Connected” strategy set out what local authorities should consider in developing their Local Transport Plans.

The Department will not routinely review Local Transport Plans. It is for the authorities to decide what arrangements to put in place for coaches in their areas.

The Department continues to engage with coach trade associations to understand the issues and challenges facing the sector.
