Cabinet Office: Security

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeCabinet OfficeTabled Answered 20 May 2026UIN 1191

The question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, how much the Cabinet Office has spent on safes since July 2024.

Answered by Chris Ward

The Cabinet Office takes the storage and management of sensitive material seriously. Since July 2024 the department has spent £11,435.75 (excluding VAT) on safes, defined as anything with a secure locking mechanism. This figure only covers safes purchased through the Government Property Agency for use in 70 Whitehall. To centrally gather information regarding any additional purchases that may have been made by individual business units would incur disproportionate costs.
