To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of line management within the NHS in supporting staff to identify and resolve workplace issues.

The NHS Staff Survey gives all National Health Service staff the annual opportunity to answer questions on a range of topics that impact their work, including their work with their immediate line manager.
As of 2025, 70.25% of NHS staff agree or strongly agree that their immediate manager (line manager) works together with them to come to an understanding of their problems. This has increased by 3.25 percentage points since the year 2021.
As of 2025, 68.08% of NHS staff agree or strongly agree that their immediate manager (line manager) takes effective action to help with any problems they face. This has increased by 3.35 percentage points since the year 2021.

Results of the survey are available to individual NHS organisations who will respond to local issues they identify from their survey results.
This Government is delivering a comprehensive programme to professionalise NHS leadership and management, including a national leadership framework, professional standards and a new College of Leadership, alongside a barring system for senior NHS managers guilty of serious misconduct such as silencing whistleblowers, backing leaders to succeed while ensuring clear accountability.
