To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what progress his Department is making on the development of mechanisms to easily contact eligible patients about relevant clinical trials and research.

The Department is committed to ensuring that all patients have access to cutting-edge clinical trials and innovative, lifesaving treatments. The Department funds research and research infrastructure through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) which supports National Health Service patients, the public, and NHS organisations across England to participate in high-quality research.
NIHR provides an online service called 'Be Part of Research', with over 700,000 sign-ups to date. Be Part of Research promotes participation in clinical trials and other research by allowing users across the United Kingdom to search for research studies, sign up to participate and also receive targeted email invitations about relevant research. As set out in our 10-Year Health Plan, we will integrate Be Part of Research within the NHS App. In addition, the Department is supporting NHS Digitrials and the Clinical Practice Research Datalink to make it easier to contact eligible participants about clinical trials and other research using NHS datasets.
