Electronic Cigarettes: Smuggling
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many (a) illegal and b) non-compliant vaping products have been seized in each of the last 12 months.
Answered by Mrs Sharon Hodgson
Illicit and underage sales of tobacco and vapes undermine the Government’s work to protect people from harm and risk of addiction. The Government is investing up to £10 million of new funding per year in Trading Standards from 2025/26 to 2028/29, to tackle the illicit and underage sale of tobacco and vapes and help enforce the law. This includes recruitment of 120 new apprentices to ensure Trading Standards have a sustainable workforce for the future.
Between April and December 2025, Trading Standards services seized over 900,000 vapes and related products inland. Between April and December 2025, Trading Standards teams at ports also prevented over 1.4 million vapes and related products from entering the country. Monthly data is not available.
