Renewable Energy: Electricity Generation
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, pursuant to Answer of 17 April 2026 to Question 124401, what assessment he has made of the adequacy of the tools available to system operators to manage periods of low renewable generation combined with high demand.
Answered by Michael Shanks
The Government works continuously with Ofgem and the National Energy System Operator (NESO) to ensure industry continues to have the tools required to manage fluctuations in supply and demand and maintain system stability. NESO is taking steps to maintain system resilience and stability as more renewable generation is built and makes up a larger proportion of the energy mix.
Periods of low renewable generation combined with high demand are planned for as part of normal system operation.
