Strategic Lawsuits against Public Participation
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what his planned timetable is for the implementation of legislation to help tackle SLAPPs.
Answered by Sarah Sackman
The Government implemented the Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) measures in the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA) in June 2025, which provides protection against SLAPPs relating to economic crime. While this was a positive first step, the Government intends to introduce legislation comprehensively tackling all SLAPPs when parliamentary time allows.
