Artificial Intelligence

Asked by Dave RobertsonLabourDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 20 May 2026UIN 900058

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what steps she is taking to help ensure that the UK has sovereign AI capacity.

Answered by Kanishka Narayan

AI is critical to the UK’s economic prosperity, public services and national security. The £500 million Sovereign AI Fund will help promising British AI companies to grow and anchor in the UK. It is complemented by the AI Research Resource and AI Growth Zones expanding access to compute and infrastructure. Together, these interventions will strengthen sovereign capability in strategically important parts of the AI value chain, giving the UK greater resilience and strategic advantage in an AI-driven global economy.
