West Midlands Trains: Rolling Stock
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether the Department has undertaken any assessment of the potential impact on regional rail capacity and service resilience of the future reallocation of rolling stock currently operating on West Midlands Railway services following transfer into public ownership; whether any guidance has been issued regarding the geographic allocation of rolling stock under Great British Railways; and whether she plans to publish any criteria governing future rolling stock deployment decisions between regions.

Great British Railways (GBR) offers us the opportunity to go further with optimising train services and driving up utilisation. Through GBR’s directing mind function, services and timetables will be developed in a coherent fashion that drives up network performance and improves the journey experience. We expect the forthcoming Rolling Stock and Infrastructure strategy to set out how we can meet likely long-term future rolling stock needs- this will include how we will improve our ability to relocate rolling stock to meet changes in demand where appropriate.
