To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if she will take steps to ensure that the UK will retain the right to set its own agricultural regulations.

This Government is currently negotiating the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement with the EU to make agrifood trade with our biggest market cheaper and easier, cutting costs and removing trade barriers for British producers and retailers.
This Government expects the agreement to cover SPS standards and controls and wider agrifood rules related to food labelling, organics, key marketing standards and compositional standards - as well as pesticides and biocides. Final details of the full scope of the agreement are subject to negotiations.
This Government is building a new, pragmatic relationship with Europe. We will have a decision-shaping role for relevant EU rules.
