Animal Experiments

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 3444

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, with reference to the Answer of 16 April 2026 to question 126825 on Animal Experiments, with which countries is she currently scoping opportunities for international engagement at a) multilateral and b) bilateral level.

Answered by Kanishka Narayan

The Government is positioning the UK as a global leader in alternative methods and we are currently scoping opportunities for international engagement at both multilateral and bilateral levels, including through partnerships with international regulators and forums. This includes recent engagement with counterparts in Sweden and China to explore collaboration on the development, validation and uptake of alternative methods. We are also exploring how the UK’s 2027 G20 presidency could help convene regulators to advance international harmonisation of alternative methods. A delivery update, including further detail, will be published later in 2026.
