The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment she has made of the adequacy of access to public electric vehicle charging infrastructure by the time of the ban on new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.

An estimate of potential future demand for charge points was originally published in 2022 in Taking Charge: the National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy and ranged from 280,000 to 720,000 in 2030. This estimate was updated in 2024 to a range of 250,000 to 550,000 in 2030.
Both the NAO in Public chargepoints for electric vehicles from 2024, which presents annual projections out to 2030, and the Climate Change Committee Progress report from 2025, concluded that rollout to date is on track.
We closely monitor charge point rollout and publish EV charger statistics monthly. We are delivering at least 100,000 charge points through our Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund.
