The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what progress he has made on developing the artificial intelligence stream of AUKUS Pillar 2.

The AI stream of AUKUS Pillar 2 seeks to accelerate the development of AI and autonomous capabilities and ensure interoperability between the three nations.

Early iterations of an AUKUS AI Toolbox (which will allow AUKUS partners to rapidly train, re-train and share AI models) have been developed at tested at the UK Army Warfighting Experiment. We also tested the first-ever integration of AI-enabled autonomous systems at Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, and have developed AI algorithms for use on AUKUS nations’ P8 aircraft to allow us to more quickly identify and locate adversaries.

This work is underpinned by the Resilient and Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Technologies Project Arrangement (signed in 2024).
