Prison Officers: Crimes of Violence
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, the total amount spent on (a) compensation payments and (b) other payments to prison officers due to injury caused by assault by a prisoner in the last two financial years.
Answered by Jake Richards
Total payment to staff employed by HM Prison Service in relation to injuries resulting from assault by a prisoner was £2,259,396 in 2024-25 and £1,997,248 in 2025-26. It is not possible to disaggregate these totals to show payments to prisoner officer grades only.

Any compensation payments to staff working in privately-managed prisons are the responsibility of the contractor.
