Electric Vehicles: Ownership
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of higher electricity prices on the affordability of electric vehicle ownership.

The Government offers grants for zero emission vehicles and chargers alongside tax incentives including salary sacrifice. The £3 billion five-year zero emission vehicle funding package supports eligible cars, vans, trucks, and wheelchair accessible vehicles, including the £2 billion Electric Car Grant, which has already supported over 110,000 drivers to choose an electric vehicle (EV). A further £600 million is supporting the rollout of charging infrastructure including the Home and Workplace Grants, which offer renters, landlords and businesses up to half the cost of installing an electric charger – saving them up to £500.
The Government has announced a review of public EV charging costs, which will report in Autumn 2026. This will examine the drivers behind price increases and consider measures to reduce them. We are constantly looking at the interventions we offer to ensure best value for money in the EV transition.
