Accident and Emergency Departments: Standards

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment of Health and Social CareTabled Answered 4 June 2026UIN 3712

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate he has made of the proportion of patients attending accident and emergency departments who leave before being assessed by a doctor; and whether he has undertaken analysis of the reasons for such departures.

Answered by Karin Smyth

The information requested is not publicly available. Although accident and emergency departments record instances where patients leave without being seen, this information is not published. The reason for leaving is not recorded therefore no national assessment has been made.
