The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the Written Statement HCWS36 of 20 May 26, what proportion of the additional 8,500 mental health staff are working in community settings.

The 8,500 additional mental health staff commitment is not split or monitored separately across inpatient and community settings. The commitment is monitored using the established National Health Service mental health workforce definition and follows the existing NHS workforce statistics reporting cycle. It covers a range of staff groups, mainly nurses, hospital and community health services doctors, and scientific, therapeutic, and technical staff. The definition includes only staff directly employed by NHS trusts or integrated care boards and excludes those working in mental health services who are employed in primary care or by non-NHS providers.
