Within the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP), the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, regardless of supplier, is governed by a combination of law and cross Government best practice frameworks.
These include the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s AI Playbook principles and UK General Data Protection Regulations, supported by Data Protection Impact Assessments. Transparency requirements such as the Algorithmic Transparency Reporting Standard also apply.
In addition, AI systems within the FDP are subject to departmental governance, independent scrutiny, and relevant sector regulation, ensuring appropriate oversight and accountability, with all models requiring United Kingdom based endpoints.
