The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what steps her Department is taking to ensure the safety of children online in South Holland and the Deepings constituency.

Protecting children online is a priority for the Secretary of State and this government. The strongest protections in the Online Safety Act are for children. Services must protect all users from illegal content and children from harmful and age-inappropriate content. However, we have always been clear that there is still more to do.
Through the Crime and Policing Act, this government has criminalised AI models that have been optimised to create child sexual abuse material, and updated the law to criminalise the writing of guides on how to exploit legitimate AI tools to generate child sexual abuse. We have also legislated to enable authorised safety testers to test generative AI models so that safeguards can be developed to prevent the generation of child sexual abuse material.
Going further, we have published a consultation and national conversation which sought views and evidence from people across the UK on measures that could further protect children online and enhance their wellbeing. This closed on 26 May and we will set out our response by the summer.
