Northern Lighthouse Board: Carbon Emissions
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to the Answer of 9 January 2026 to Question 100955, what programmes the Northern Lighthouse Board is undertaking to achieve its Net Zero target by 2050; and what the estimated cost to the public purse is of those programmes.
Answered by Keir Mather
The Northern Lighthouse Board’s programmes to support its Net Zero target include measures to improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable power across its lighthouse estate and aids to navigation, alongside projects to reduce emissions from its vessels and operational activity. There is no cost to the public purse. These are funded through the General Lighthouse Fund, financed through light dues paid by ships calling at UK and Irish ports.
