Former Ministers: Departmental Records

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeCabinet OfficeTabled Answered 3 June 2026UIN 4221

The question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, pursuant to the answer of 21 May 2026 to Question 1237 on Former Ministers: Departmental Records, whether his Department has guidance on that issue.

Answered by Nick Thomas-Symonds

The Guidance for the Management of Private Office Information & Records is published on gov.uk and sets out the legal and institutional framework for the management of ministerial records, the types of records that should and should not be preserved, and confirms that ministerial records should be transferred to departmental archives when a minister leaves office.
