Electric Vehicles: Excise Duties
The question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether her Department’s consultation on the proposed Electric Vehicle Excise Duty scheme permitted respondents to comment on the proposed implementation date, mileage tariff structure and sectoral exemptions.

The consultation invited views on the design, scope and implementation of electric Vehicle Excise Duty. It set out the proposed April 2028 implementation date, the proposed mileage rates for electric and plug-in hybrid cars, and the vehicle types proposed to be in and out of scope.
Respondents were able to comment on these issues through the consultation, including through the question seeking views on the Government’s proposal for the design and scope of eVED. The consultation also asked specific questions on the impact on fleets and leasing businesses and on administrative burdens and complexity.
The Government is analysing the responses in detail and will respond in due course.
