To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many people have been recalled to prison or reoffended following early release under Standard Determinate Sentences 40%.

This Government inherited prisons days from collapse. We had no choice but to take decisive action through SDS40 to stop our prisons overflowing and keep the public safe.
We regularly publish data on recalls via our Accredited Official Statistics publication Offender Management Statistics Quarterly (available at Offender management statistics quarterly - GOV.UK).
Reoffending rates are also published regularly on an annual and quarterly basis. The most recent rates are available at www.gov.uk/government/collections/proven-reoffending-statistics. The requested information regarding reoffending rates cannot be provided because it would form a subset of the data that underpins future versions of these Official Statistics.
We have also published SDS40 release data alongside the quarterly Offender Management Statistics, in line with the previous Lord Chancellor’s commitment to transparency: Standard Determinate Sentence (SDS40) release data - GOV.UK.
