To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, whether his Department has made an assessment of the potential merits of extending protections equivalent to those available under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to sole traders and small businesses purchasing essential business vehicles.

The Government has no current plans to extend protections equivalent to those available under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to sole traders and small businesses purchasing essential business vehicles. As a general principle, the Government does not intervene in such circumstances, providing businesses with the freedom to contract.
The Government is supporting small businesses more broadly as set out in the Small Business Plan published last year. This includes taking through the introduction of the Commercial Payments Bill, which introduces maximum 60‑day payment terms and will strengthen the Small Business Commissioner’s powers to ensure small businesses are paid on time.
