Counter-terrorism

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentHome OfficeTabled Answered 4 June 2026UIN 4652

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many (a) Islamist, (b) extreme right wing and (c) other terrorist threats have been prevented in each year since 2020.

Answered by Dan Jarvis

On 16 October 2025, MI5 Director General Ken McCallum delivered an annual update on the national security threats currently facing the UK. During this update, he stated that since the start of 2020 MI5 and the police have disrupted 19 late-stage attack plots. The full threat update is available at: https://www.mi5.gov.uk/director-general-sir-ken-mccallum-gives-threat-update

Nevertheless, further details or a breakdown of these disruptions cannot be disclosed, as doing so could compromise ongoing investigations and broader national security operations.
