Organised Crime: Counterfeit Manufacturing
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit in tackling organised counterfeit networks.
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
Operating within a complex enforcement landscape, the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) is the only national police unit dedicated to combatting intellectual property crime and remains a key strategic partner in tackling domestic and cross-border organised counterfeit networks, and delivering against the IP Counter Infringement Strategy 2022-27.
PIPCU reports high impact enforcement and disruption activity, including the suspension of more than 136,000 websites selling counterfeit goods and successful operations against organised criminal networks. In 2025 alone, PIPCU reported that nearly £3 million in criminal assets were frozen and a further £3.25 million confiscated.
