To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether steps are being taken to ensure that online marketplaces apply verification tools and buyer protection systems to reduce counterfeit sales.

The Government is committed to protecting intellectual property rights and supporting businesses and consumers. The UK maintains a robust legal framework requiring platforms to disable access to infringing listings when they have actual knowledge of it. The Intellectual Property Office regularly engages with major online platforms in the UK and overseas to discuss measures to tackle infringement, including ways to review existing platform processes for identifying and removing infringing listings and strengthening cooperation with law‑enforcement bodies. It has also published a user-friendly guidance on e‑commerce platform tools to help rights holders make more effective use of the existing platform procedures.
