Palliative Care

The Government is developing a Modern Service Framework (MSF) for Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care in England. The MSF is a clinically-led, evidence-based framework to support sustained improvements in outcomes for patients and carers, including by reducing unwarranted variation and addressing inequalities in access, experience, and outcomes.

Areas of action will be identified for those commissioning and delivering services throughout England, including in Yeovil and in Somerset more widely, with associated performance and outcome metrics to support system accountability. The MSF will seek to embed palliative care and end-of-life care within a strategic commissioning model that is centred on population need.

We have supported the hospice sector with a £125 million capital funding boost for eligible adult and children’s hospices in England to ensure they have the best physical environment for care. St Margaret’s Hospice Care, which serves patients in Yeovil and across Somerset, is receiving £986,184 from this funding.

We are also providing £80 million of revenue funding for children and young people’s hospices over the next three financial years, giving them the stability they need to plan ahead. Hospices that serve children and young people, and their families, in Yeovil and in Somerset more widely, including the Children’s Hospice South West and the Jessie May Hospice, will benefit from this funding.
