To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, with reference to the Fourth Report of the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy of Session 2024-26 on The National Security Strategy, HC 1045, published on 27 March 2026, what progress he has made in delivering an Energy Security Strategy in conjunction with the National Energy System Operator.

On Thursday 28 May, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DENSZ) published the Energy Sector Cyber Security Strategy, in partnership with Ofgem, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the National Energy System Operator (NESO). The Energy Sector Cyber Security Strategy sets out how the government and partners will work with the industry to further strengthen cyber security within today’s energy system and ensure it is embedded in our clean energy system of the future.
This new four-year plan will help to futureproof Britain’s energy resilience, as the government drives for clean power by 2030 to protect households and businesses from fossil fuel price shocks and bring bills down for good.
Under this plan, the government will work with the NESO, Ofgem and NCSC to identify and help organisations defend against emerging cyber threats and ensure the energy sector stand ready to respond. It provides a roadmap to roll out this change over the next four years, working with leaders and executives to instil cyber security as a shared responsibility across the sector – with the same rigour as health and safety.
