Motor Vehicles: Secondhand Goods

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 4884

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment has she made of the potential impact on prices of second-hand petrol and diesel cars between now and the implementation of the ban on new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.

Answered by Keir Mather

The Government’s consultation, on the reinstatement of the 2030 phase out of all new cars powered solely by internal combustion engines, has provided crucial certainty to industry and consumers.

We will consult further on the detailed regulatory approach for requirements post-2030, and a Cost Benefit Analysis will be prepared for relevant legislation.
