Transport: Global Navigation Satellite Systems

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 4885

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, what progress has she made in adopting the sovereign Satellite Based Augmentation System (UK SBAS).

Answered by Kanishka Narayan

Following the trial of a UK Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS), the Government is assessing options for access to an SBAS, including the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System (EGNOS). DfT are reviewing the case and viability of rejoining the EGNOS programme. Doing so would be subject to negotiation with the European Union.
