Finance: National Security

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeTreasuryTabled Answered 4 June 2026UIN 4886

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to the fourth report of the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy (CP1338), published on 24 June 2025, what progress has she made in enabling closer cooperation with the EU regarding illicit finance.

Answered by Rachel Blake

The UK cooperates closely with the EU on illicit finance issues, both on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

The UK and European Commission are members of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which sets international standards on counter illicit finance. The FATF meets three times a year and provides an opportunity to discuss illicit finance issues with the Commission and EU Member States.

The UK and EU discuss illicit finance issues through structures established under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement, including the Specialised Committee on Law Enforcement and Judicial Cooperation, and through the biannual Joint EU-UK Financial Regulatory Forum.

The UK maintains extensive operational cooperation with the EU, including through our law enforcement authorities, supervisors, and the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation.
