The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what plans her Department has regarding the eligibility of adult children of British citizens with UK Ancestry visas to remain on the five-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Answered by Mike Tapp
The earned settlement model, proposed in A Fairer Pathway to Settlement, was subject to a public consultation, which opened on 20 November 2025 and closed on 12 February 2026.
We are now reviewing and analysing the results of this to inform the development of the final model, including consideration of any potential exemptions for particular groups or transitional measures for those already on a pathway to settlement. As no final decisions have been made, I can give no further detail at this time.
In the meantime, the current UK Ancestry visa rules will continue to apply, and any changes will be communicated publicly.
The final model will also be subject to economic and equality impact assessments, which we have committed to publish in due course.
