Type 45 Destroyers: Crew

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 5072

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of implementing a new management system across the Type 45 fleet to facilitate a reduction in crew size.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Ministry of Defence keeps the personnel requirements and operating models of its surface fleet, including the Type 45 Destroyers, under continual review to ensure they remain effective, safe and aligned with operational demands.

Any change would be subject to rigorous assessment, including safety, operational effectiveness and value for money considerations.
