Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 5112

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the press release entitled UK to contribute drones, jets and warship to Multinational Mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz, published on 12 May 2026, whether that deployment will be funded by a) his Department and b) the Treasury Special Reserve.

Answered by Al Carns

The Chancellor has confirmed that she had approved access to the Special Reserve to deploy additional capabilities in the Middle East. This includes the £115 million UK contribution to Multinational Mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz announced in May. The Department's operational spend will be set out in its Annual Report and Accounts in due course.
