Solar Power: Housing

Asked by Edward MorelloLiberal DemocratDepartment for Energy Security and Net ZeroTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 5206

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what steps his Department is taking to support households with rooftop solar installations.

Answered by Michael Shanks

The Government continues to support the installation of rooftop solar PV in various ways, such as through the Smart Export Guarantee, which enables households with solar panels to receive payment for excess electricity that is sold back to the grid.

The Warm Homes Plan will deliver £15 billion of public investment, helping households take up measures like solar panels, heat pumps, batteries, and insulation.

The new Future Homes Standard will ensure solar panels are installed on the majority of new build homes once it comes into force, saving households hundreds of pounds a year on their energy bills.
