Cuba: Protestantism
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what representations she has made to the Government of Cuba on (a) the detention of Jonathan Muir Burgos and (b) independent Protestant churches in the last 12 months.
Answered by Chris Elmore
The UK continues to champion Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) for all, including the many Christians facing persecution because of their faith around the world.
We are concerned by reports of the detention of Jonathan Muir Burgos and wider restrictions on independent Protestant churches in Cuba. Our relationship with Cuba allows for frank dialogue, including on matters on which we do not agree and our Embassy in Havana and Ministers will continue to raise human rights concerns with the Cuban authorities.
